Q.What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

The feedback I received from my rough cut was surprising and shocking. I showed the video telling everyone as it was my final video. My work was appreciated by almost everyone who saw the video but on the other hand I also received some criticism. The thing which was not really liked by a few of my target audience was the close up shots in the fighting shot in the video.

In my video I have a few black and white shots also so while showing the video to my target audience I was a little doubtful about these black and white shots, I was expecting very heartbroken opinions about this effect I used but to my surprise it was liked by everyone. I had created this effect to show the feel of imagination of the two singers and I was glad to know that I successfully conveyed this to my target audience and they enjoyed it.

Hearing to positive views of my target audience I was really happy that my target audience liked my music video and I had actually satisfied the expectations of the teenagers. Seeing the response I was glad to know that I had successfully conveyed the message across the whole of young generation very creatively through the video. I was also glad that a few of my target audience pointed out some flaws in the video which if worked upon will result in a video my target audience want to see.

After shooting and editing my video I also the showing of my video to get a feedback from my target audience. In this I showed them the video and then gave them a questionnaire to fill. The main objective of this was to get to know my mistakes and whether I have fulfilled my target audiences’ expectations and I am glad that this objective was successfully achieved. Through this video I have motivated every teenager to work for the betterment of their country and to always be united.

After seeing the response of everyone I believed that whether everyone liked my video, there was still room for improvements on this video. Even though I was happy that this was my final cut I thought that to achieve a higher grade I should listen to the positive criticism and fix the footage.

ANCILLARY:

As I have made a music video I also had to make a digipak and an advertisement in a music magazine for its release.

I made a digipak and an advertisement and found it necessary to ask what my target audience thought about it and seeing the cover would they buy the CD. This is what my digipak and the add looked like:

This cover and add did not appeal to my target audience. They found it very unattractive.

The digi-pak did not catch their attention much as seeing the digi-pak they said they would not buy the CD. They found this very dull and dark, and they said they wanted to see something bright and attractive. They also pointed out that they want to see the band on the cover. Keeping in mind these positive criticisms I thought of something new and different and ended up making this as my final ancillary task. This was liked by everyone as compared to the first attempt.

Evaluation Question Two

Posted: April 1, 2011 in Evaluation

Q. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I have a strong believe that YOUTH has the power to change the future of any nation; they can motivate their peers to bring in the positive change.

I have selected a national song “SARA PAKISTAN” which gives the message that this country belongs to us, this is the where our dreams can come true. This song talks about the beauty of the country where we have opened our eyes. It motivates us to be united and be together at the times of sorrow and happiness.

The video starts showing the two teenagers watching the glimpses of Independence Day Movement in TV lounge; they get inspired and transformed into an audio studio setting where they are producing a national.  In the video besides their singing and performance shots, the band is also shown in the different situations where they are acting as a catalyst to motivate the others to help.  They also stop the youth to fight and be as friend, this is the symbolic shot which gives the message to the youth to stop fighting and be together as a nation.

In the end they transformed back and they join hands to be together to bring the positive change.  The video ends with the shot of founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and his message “I am looking forward for Pakistan to be the best nation.”

ANCILLARY

While designing the Digi Pack I have used the wide green field to describe the beauty of our country and open blue sky to communicate the freedom. In the foreground I have used the low angle shot of the band with the positive and confident looks.

Evaluation Question One

Q. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In this answer I will be discussing what things I have kept in mind while shooting and editing the video. I will also compare my video with two other patriotic Pakistani music videos.

I have discussed the music, lyrics, camera angles and editing techniques below:

Music: When watching the video it is obvious that I edited according to the beats and the tempo of the song. As the tempo is not very fast so the editing and the changing of shots is done accordingly.

Lyrics: ‘Sara Pakistan hamara apna Pakistan’ These words in the song make it obvious that it is a patriotic song and love for Pakistan and unity and brotherhood will be shown in it.

Camera angles: I have used various camera angles as I did not want the audience to get bored by seeing the same shots. Using various angles gave a variety of shots for the audience also and did not make the video boring and restricted to a few shots.

Editing: As the music is not fast and it’s soft music so the editing is also according to the beats and the music.

Firstly I will compare my music video with Dil Se by Haroon (Pakistani singer).

In the video of the song Dil Se there is a storyline including shots  of the singer singing in an open area, we can see the sky. The shots of the singer are mostly low angle and panning shots. In this video also there are a variety of shots. In the video a lot of effects has been used like the black and white effect and the sepia effect, they have used the black and white for the imaginary shots.

Comparing my video with my video I can find that there is a lot of similarities, for example: the camera angles and the black and white effect. In my video also the imaginary shots are in black and white.

I have also included the shots of the band and have used a variety of shots.

The main similarity is that there is a storyline in my video as well.

Secondly I will compare my video with the song “Hum say hai yeh zamana” by “Call the band”.

Comparing my video with this video again I find similarities. The concept of my video is almost the same like of this video. I have also included some studio shots just like in this video. In my video and also in this video the youth has been shown doing something motivational. The concept of both the videos is to motivate the youth and to make them feel proud of their country and for them to work for their country. The only difference I find is that there is no storyline in the video and shots other than the bands’ shot are not in black and white and there are no effects used.

ANCILLARY

This front cover for my digi-pak was created using Photoshop. I did a separate photo shoot for a picture of the band to put on the cover. I did the required lighting and tried different shots like high angle and low angle, close ups etc. I used Photoshop to adjust the picture with the background and to write the band’s name and the album name as per on all the album covers.

For my magazine advertisement I used the same digi-pak cover and adjusted all the information required on an add for the release of an album,  using Photoshop.

I think, In my opinion my final products covers all the particular conventions required to make a music video, a digi-pak and a magazine advertisement for the release of an album.
